Yoga and weight-loss

Hello Yogis.

In recent days, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has set out a strategy to target obesity.*

As you know, there are a vast number of health implications for being overweight, including as it was reported by the BBC*, more probability of serious illness, following a Covid-19 infection.**

During the lockdown period many people have found themselves a little heavier than they were before.

In light of this, I have put together a few tips on how a regular yoga practice can assist you on your weight-loss journey!

You can also listen to an in-depth podcast, I have recorded on the subject here.

Movement is just one aspect

When you move your body, you increase metabolism, you increase your energy and you increase flexibility and inner body strength. All these things will make you feel like becoming more active! You may want to take walks or cycle as well as a regular practice of yoga. The more active you are, the more inspired you will feel to continue your journey to better health.

Strengthen your body and your mind

As you begin to understand the way your body moves, and you connect to your own physical and mental strength, your body begins to build upon its findings and a sense of continued determination and value to what you’re doing flourishes.

Relationship to food may change

As you begin to feel better and as you gain a greater perspective to choices that benefit your 'new found feeling of health', you may find that you naturally begin to make healthier decisions when choosing meals that reflect your new mindset.

It’s more than a conscious decision

Yoga helps you to change your long term relationship to your self. Helping you to connect to a sense of inner worth and heightened self esteem; you will feel more empowered to make decisions in life that are of benefit to your mind and your body!

Sleep issues are often resolved

When we can't sleep, we naturally reach for foods that give us a quick energy lift, which is then usually followed by a sharp drop in both energy and mood. Yoga will give you tools to help your body and mind to relax fully, giving you a more restful nights sleep and also allowing the body's stress hormones to decrease; reducing the need for those sugar spiking snacks.

Everyone can find a suitable level of practice

Whatever your current level of heath and fitness, i can work with you to find a practice level that is manageable and maintainable. You may prefer building a relationship with yoga in a 1-2-1 guidance session and these start at just £15. The classes I teach are also suitable for all levels of ability and currently both 1-2-1 guidance and classes are being taught via Zoom, Whats-app or FaceTime video call.

An opportunity for in-person 1-2-1 or small group classes can be arranged subject to weather conditions and space availability so please do get in touch if you would prefer this option.

Creating a new way of life is something that can be so empowering and can literally elevate every aspect of your future. I am always here to offer inspiration and advice.

With love,

Carrie-Anne. x
